NAUTISM IN THE ATLANTIC AREA II (NEA II) PROJECT

NEA 2 is a new project of transnational cooperation following the NEA I project.

NEA I project has brought together 11 partners from 7 regions (Mid-West Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, La Manche, Galicia, Norte Portugal) and from 5 countries, with one objective : the coordinated development of water activities and particularly nautical tourism in the Atlantic Area. This first project of interregional cooperation on marine leisure has been carried out from November 1st 2004 until October 31st 2007.

The assessment of NEA I is very positive in terms of the results achieved as well as the dynamism developed in the regions.

Its partners have therefore decided to extend their cooperation and to work together on a more ambitious project :

The NEA II project - which has been already the subject of many working meetings in 2007 and 2008 - aims at a sustainable and coordinated development of the whole marine leisure sector (activities, marinas, industries, trades and services) in the Atlantic Area.

17 actions, divided into 4 categories, will be implemented :
  • 5 Actions “Marine leisure and economical development”
  • 5 Actions “Marine leisure and protection of the environment”
  • 4 Actions “Marine leisure and social cohesion”
  • 3 Transversal Actions, for example Development and promotion of the Atlantic Water Sports Games.
This new project should be presented to the Management Authority of the New Interreg Atlantic Area Program at the beginning of 2008.

Coordinated by the Regional County of Brittany, the lead partner, NEA 2 will be put in place from the January 1st 2009 to December 31st 2011, by 23 partners divided into 8 countries or regions: Ireland, South-West, Basse-Normandie, Bretagne, Pays de la Loire, Galicia, Portugal, Andalusia.
